Teeth bleaching or whitening is a very safe and conservative procedure for whitening your smile. Bleaching or whitening uses peroxide to lighten the tooth colour by a few shades. It penetrates the outer surface if the tooth and breaks down stains leaving your smile brighter and whiter.

Bleaching of the teeth is one of a number of cosmetic options that the dentist and patient has to whiten the patients smile.

Options other than bleaching include crowns and veneers which not only can whiten your smile but change the shape of teeth.

Bleaching can be discussed with your dentist or hygienist. They will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding the suitability of your teeth and the limitations of this treatment. The whitening unfortunately cannot change the shade of fillings or crowns in the smile zone so discussion with your dentist is essential. The main downside is the potential for some tooth sensitivity which we resolve using products like tooth mousse and desensitizing toothpastes and varnishes.

Teeth Bleaching & Whitening in Adelaide is a procedure to whiten your smile

Bleaching can be done with an AT HOME kit or be done in the chair.

We use TGA approved tooth bleaching products and may use different techniques depending on the concentration of the product used and the patients unique situation.

AT HOME BLEACHING usually takes longer to reach the desired effect, but is completely patient controlled. Allowing the patient to try different bleach concentrations and desensitizing products.

In the chair bleaching is more rapid and has a greater cost as it requires time and supervision in the surgery. It requires the application of gel to protect the gums from the bleach and then the application of the bleaching gel which we may activate further with intense light. An at home kit is required for top ups as tea/ coffee/red wine/ highly coloured food will all cause the bleaching effect to fade over time.

The Process

Initial consult – check the colour/ shade of your teeth.

Take impressions for bleaching trays (stents) so that bleach can be accurately applied at home.

Insert trays and supply bleach for home use or set up for bleaching in the chair and application of bleach. Your dentist/hygienist will discuss this further with you.

Reassess the shade at a later date.
